Intravenous and Injection Therapy (IV Therapy)

Dr. Lock, ND uses custom formulations prepared to meet the particular needs each patient. The I.V. bag is hung on an I.V. pole or hook on the wall, and the patient sits in a comfortable chair. A small needle is inserted into a vein in your hand or arm to deliver the I.V. treatment. The treatments are generally painless, and the formulation is infused slowly over a period of 30mins to 2.5 hours, depending on the treatment prescribed and your comfort level.

What is the frequency of treatment?

Patients vary in the number of treatments needed, but most require infusions 1 to 3 times per week. Treatment is ongoing as dictated by your individualized program.

Is it safe?

IV Therapy is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment that is well tolerated by most people. It carries a very low risk of serious adverse side effects.

How do I get started with my IV treatments?

You must first meet with Dr. Lock, ND for an initial consult. She will get the details of your health, run lab work if need be (i.e. G6PD, liver and kidney function tests), and design a program that is right for you. IV treatments are generally done in conjunction with other therapies, nutritional and lifestyle interventions.

What kind of I.V. therapies are available?

The most common therapies are IV Vitamin C and the Myers Cocktail. However Dr. Lock, ND will individualize each treatment for your specific needs. Here are some other examples of IV treatments:

  • Immune Support: This may include Vit C plus other nutrients that support a proper functioning immune system
  • Energy Boost: for those who are feeling fatigue or are burning the candle at both ends. This is a modified version of a Myers Cocktail
  • Detoxification: This may include Glutathione or Acetylcysteine to support detoxification and liver function.
  • Healthy Skin: Glutathione is a great detoxifier and it also evens out skin tones if you have Liver spots or discoloration.
  • Wound healing: This is helpful in pre or post surgery to aid recovery and repair.
  • Migraine Reliever: Magnesium is one of the main ingredients to help relieve migraine pain.
  • Digestion Supporter: for Celiac, IBD or those who are having digestive difficulty. IV therapy nutrients will aid you in getting your required vitamins and minerals while you work on healing your gut through diet changes and other measures.
  • Menstrual Cramp Reliever: a mix of magnesium and b vitamins to ease your cramps and support hormone balancing.
  • Mistletoe Therapy

IV Vitamin C (IVC) and cancer care

IVC therapy is the intravenous infusion of high dose vitamin C. There is a solid foundation of research to support the use of IVC in the integrative treatment of cancer.

Clinically I have observed meaningful improvements to quality of life and overall survival time through the administration of this therapy. It is important to understand that the concentrations of vitamin C required against cancer are achievable only through IV use, and not orally.

IV Vitamin C can be used in conjunction with most chemotherapy and radiation and they can be used concurrently. There are many studies demonstrating that vitamin C favourably enhances chemotheraputic drug effects, as well as radiation – presumably due to the improved tumour oxygenation via the high dose vitamin C induction of peroxide. High dose vitamin C administered intravenously is a pro-oxidant and as such is complimentary to oncologic care. Cancer patients consistently report that IVC helps them withstand the effects of their traditional therapies. Further benefits to IVC include significantly reduced fatigue, nausea, pain and appetite loss. Patients heal faster, are more resilient to infection and remain more active overall. All of these factors promote healing and an improved response to cancer therapy.

How is the protocol given?

Vitamin C IV Therapy
Dr. Lock, ND uses a specific formulation prepared in an appropriate volume IV bag of sterile water. All treatments are closely monitored throughout the 1 to 1.5 hour infusion time. Prior to initiating IVC all our patients are pre-screened for G6PD deficiency (an enzyme used to maintain stability of the red blood cell membranes) and kidney function.

What is the frequency of treatment?

For cancer patients, the number of treatments needed may vary, but most require infusions 1 to 3 times per week. Treatment is ongoing as dictated by your individualized program.

IVC is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapy that is well tolerated by most people. It carries a very low risk of serious adverse side effects and can have a significantly positive impact on overall health.

Reducing unwanted side-effects from chemo and radiation therapies
Reducing the risk of recurrences and metastases

Clinical Studies: Many clinical studies have been carried out with regard to the use of mistletoe extracts for treatment of various types of tumours. Mistletoe preparations are thus one of the best and most extensively researched medicines used in complementary cancer treatment. In the final analysis, the studies predominantly indicate that mistletoe therapy is of benefit. The best documented effects are the reduction in the side effects of traditional cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy and an improvement in the quality of life. In some cases, the appearance of metastases can be delayed and survival time can be prolonged.
