Dr. Karim Alami is a registered Naturopath serving patients at the heart of Centertown, Ottawa. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Karim is a lead instructor at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, Ottawa. Although he treats a wide variety of health concerns, Dr. Karim has a special interest in treating weight loss and gut-related health issues.
Why should patients choose you?
As a naturopathic doctor trained in various modalities (i.e. botanical medicine, diet & lifestyle counselling, nutraceuticals, acupuncture, and homeopathy), I am able to customize my patient’s treatment plans to fit their needs. As no two people are alike, my goal is to work with my patients to discover and treat the root cause of their health concerns. I do this by utilizing specialized testing, standardized blood work, and clinical case taking. I strongly believe in building a solid foundation of health to prevent future health issues. This includes a strong diet, proper stress management, good sleep quality, and proper functioning of all body systems. Because I am very passionate about nutrition, digestive health is one of my special interests. The gut is akin to the root of a tree, without a healthy digestive system, we can not expect the rest of the body to function properly.
What are the top 3 treatments that you specialize in?
Digestive concerns (SIBO, GERD, Gas/Bloating, Constipation/Diarrhea)
What are you proud of in your practice?
I am proud of the strong relationships I build with my patients. I am humbled by the trust and faith they put in me.
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I enjoy treating people who are committed to their health and who are ready to make a change. I work with my patients as a health detective to discover the root cause and develop an effective treatment plan that works for them. Although I see patients who suffer from various health concerns, I especially enjoy treating digestive health. This is because I believe for every system in the body to function optimally, we need to not only ensure a nutritious diet that provides the body with the resources it needs to carry out its metabolic tasks, but also proper digestion and absorption of those nutrients. A dysfunction at any point along the digestive tract can manifest as symptoms in other systems such as eczema, asthma, gastro-intestinal symptoms, autoimmunity or even weight gain.
